Sammich FAQ

What does the relatedness number mean?

Relatedness is a percentile: 90 means your word is more related to that word than 90% of all the words we know.

Why is my score the lower number?

A sammich is only as good as its weaker side. A word that is perfect for one side but unrelated to the other scores low; the best words sit in the middle.

How does the AI know which words go together?

A language model has read billions of sentences. We turned every word we know into a list of numbers that captures how it is used, then compared them. This happens ahead of time; nothing you type is sent to an AI.

Why was my word rejected?

You can’t use today’s words or forms of them, and words that mean nearly the same as one side are too close. Rejections never use a try.

When does a new sammich come out?

At midnight in your time zone. Everyone gets the same two words for the same date.

How do streaks work?

Finish the daily sammich to keep your streak. Past puzzles count toward stats but never your streak.

What is “What everyone ordered”?

After you finish, you see the most common best words other players found and how they scored. It appears once 20 people have finished.

Do I need an account?

No. Stats are saved on this device. Accounts that sync devices are coming later.
